The Unorganized Township of Bootstuck

Tape 22 - Pop Top Balls and Recreational Olympics

Richard Vandentillaart / Nick Vardon Season 1 Episode 22

I’ve been cataloguing these tapes for months now, and I’m still not sure if Bootstuck is a functioning township or an elaborate performance art piece. This tape starts with something called a "snowman minute"—a unit of time defined by how long it takes to both build and melt a snowman—and somehow drifts into what can only be described as a failed Winter Olympics bid… held in someone's backyard.

There’s talk of a ski hill (five feet high), a chairlift (manual, powered by Caleb), and skis fashioned out of chopped wood and tied to boots with straps. There’s also “top ball” competition, which is apparently snowman-related and definitely not regulated. Eventually the conversation devolves into a series of increasingly frantic declarations about pop tops, bottle caps, and imaginary medals—all shouted with more enthusiasm than clarity.

Oh, and the mayor might be trying to bring Olympic events to town… one at a time… mostly in the basement. With soda. And possibly darts.

I don’t know anymore.

Speaker:

I got snowman minutes to talk here. A snowman minute. Then then I got to go, and then I'm gonna come right back. What's a snowman minute? Well, a snowman minute is how long it take to whoops up a snowman, and then tell me how long it takes to melt. This is new to me. All right, moving on to topic number three. But yesterday I saw a miraculousulous event. Whoop, crossed the road off the board, used it. Yep. A miraculous event. There's a t of thing that you don't see all the time. The moon's hanging out way up high in the morning time sky. Sun comes up, says hello. I kick photographs, pick them both at the same time, smiling at me... That don't happen a lot. No, sir, no, that's quite the photograph. You'll have to share that. Well, I'll know it to you. When you come over, it's in the developing lap, and it should be back next week. Question, you mentioned Snowman. I want to talk a bit about recreational stuff We got lost recreational things going on, including the new one for Po, but that's not coming till next year. But this year we got some fun winter activities. What are some of the activities? You've got Snowman rolling! We got two guys going on bottoms, and we got one guy doing top balls. And you can figure out in the middle for yourself. Well, you put it in a chairlift and a skiing hill. A ski hill, really? So you ski in Bootst stud? Oh, Oh, it's fabulous. Only in the winter today. It's not so great in the summertime. Tell you what. Whoop Never tried it. Couldn't really tell you. Most people ski in the winter. It's a winter sport. That's what we thought! So you roll out the ball for a snowman, put the middle in. We'll finish it for you, and you can go on the chift and then on the ski hill. Whoops. You have a ski hill and you have a chair leftft? Yeah, we got a nice chairlift holds three people. Caleb gonna come and just lift you up on a chair. That should get you to the top of the hilt, about five feet high. It goes quite a long way, 680 yards. Yeah, downward slope. We try to do a ski helting in reverse going up the hill. Whoop. You can't ski too far, especially when the wooden plankes come off your feet. Whoop The sk skis? We haven't got skis yet, but Can choped us up some mass wood. You're skiing with logs? Yeah, but they' fashioned to your feet. Hand puts a strap for you. You put the strap on, he'll lift you up in the chair lift till you get to the top of the hill. Whoop! You said it's over 600 yards long, but only five feet high. How do you move forward at all? It's not very feet.petiful motion. Of course. Do you know if you take a wagon to the top of the hill and then you leave the wagon so you can put your goggles on, and then you try to step in the wagon, but the wagon's gone, right? Because it was at the top of the hip. It kind of works the same with skiing, only as winter, and there's no wheels and you got one wooden boards. Different but the same. That's an amazing thing. Whoop! Hey, how you doing? Yes, here at last. Who are you? Find out for yourself. Whoop hoop, hoop. Stop that. Yeah. Sticky finger. Nope, nope, no. Sorry about that. That's all right a little bit. We also have other things coming to town, too. Ax throwing. Popular events to the el Olympic? Axe throwing. Yep. We're going to bring most Olympic events to boot stuff in time. Not all at the same time, one at a time. Seems to be quite the Olympic event. Sports. Sports events. Sports.. Whoop Something like that. Sp. Well, it's more of a recreational activity. I don't think it actually is an Olympic sport. Sports! Sports. That's okay. We do it for recreation anyway, mostly in the base. basement, drinking soda pop, beer hunter, all the fun games that used to play as a kid. And you just call them Olympic Games. Sport events. Sports. Game's been saving the bottle tops from the Pop pop tops. cap pops, and then we can make a little paperclip chain, right? A pop top cap tops, Bottle top? What? Yeah. Whoop, Make a pop top, Bottle cap, drop, drop, pop cap, tap, pop tops, cap, pop. Put her down on for a medal. Then you'll be fine. Pop top. Think about what you would win. duck, pop top, pop, duck, pop, you know it? Sounds good to me. Whoop! Bottle top, cap, top, top. I don't understand what thing you've said. That was good. I like
